Live Sound Engineer
Join the Blue Gate Theatre team as a live sound engineer at the award-winning Blue Gate Performing Arts Center and Blue Gate Music Hall. The Blue Gate Theatre is the top entertainment destination in Shipshewana and throughout the Midwest. The Blue Gate PAC hosts 100’s of National Touring Artists such as Lee Brice, Dustin Lynch, Styx, 38 Special, Jeff Foxworthy, and many more every year. The Blue Gate Music Hall is home to our Nashville-produced musicals, as well as tribute acts and national solo artists. Our parent company, Blue Gate Hospitality, is also home to a busy 155-room hotel, conference center, large restaurant, bakery, furniture stores, and gift shops. Job Responsibilities: • Set up, operate, and tear down Audio, Lighting, and Video systems for various events, including concerts, musicals, shows, conventions, and meeting spaces. • Concerts & Other Shows: • Assist with load in and load out of artists. • Pinning of the stage for all microphones and power needed. • Oversee visiting Audio techs and assisting as necessary. • Coordinate systems needed for events according to Guest or Artist needs. • Read Artist riders, including stage plots and input lists, to prepare appropriately for concerts and shows. • Learn new systems and technology to maintain the highest quality and most professional production. • Assist the Technical Director in designing and programming new productions. • Maintain all types of equipment, including troubleshooting, soldering, cleaning, etc. • Must be able to climb, lift heavy equipment, and perform other physical duties as assigned. Qualifications: Required: • Live Audio Engineer (Live Sound Engineer) performance experience (5+ years’ preferred.) • A positive attitude is a MUST, but a sense of humor is even better. • Possess an excellent working knowledge of all types of audio-visual equipment, including operation, set-up, troubleshooting, and explanation of equipment. • Possess excellent customer service skills, politely and promptly responding to client needs. • Must handle stressful situations professionally and positively. • Must work with multiple Artists, guests, directors, and producers, all while keeping a calm, cool, and cooperative demeanor. • Ability to work quickly, clearly, and accurately as time is critical on many shows. • Possess a high attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and the ability to multi-task and prioritize work responsibilities. • Proficient in running live sound for Front of House and Monitors for Large National Acts, Tribute Shows, musicals, conventions, and meeting events. • Computer experience is mandatory, using software such as ProPresenter, Show Cue Systems, ETC Eos, and OBS Video software. Preferred: • Experience running Concert or Theatrical lighting using Avolite and ETC Platforms. • Experience in Video Wall systems, video processors, and video converters. • Carpentry skills are also beneficial. The Blue Gate Theatre Live Sound Engineer will work various hours as scheduled by managers, ranging from morning to late nights, primarily Monday through Saturday.
